Adoption Classes Classes available January- June 1999 Kinship Center clients:

Please choose any of these classes to meet the requirement of 12 Class Hours

All classes are open to birth and adoptive families as well as friends and relatives. All classes are held at 1520 Brookhollow Drive, Suite 41, Santa Ana, CA The office is located in the Brookhollow Office Complex off of the 55 Freeway at Dyer Road. Phone: (714) 979-2365. Register by email.

Part I
TALKING TO CHILDREN ABOUT ADOPTION OVER THE YEARS
9:30 am - 12:30 pm - $30.00 per person
Saturdays (January 16, March 27 or May 1, 1999)

Part II THE SEVEN CORE ISSUES
(For the adoptive family, birth family and adoptee) What are the challenges and Seven Core Issues of adoption? how do we meet them and succees? What does current research show? What are the differences between families raising children by birth and families raising children by adoption?
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm - $30.00 per person
Saturdays (January 16, March 27 or May 1, 1999)


BONDING AND ATTACHMENT
Bonding and attachment; the effects of separation and loss on children; how to move children minimizing trauma.
Relevant for infant, older and international adoptions.
9:30 am - 12:30 pm - $30.00 per person
Saturdays (February 20, April 24 or June 19, 1999)

PARENTING THE ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILD
Many older children adopted domestically or internationally have been neglected and/or abused. what are the signs? How does their past affect their present functioning? What kinds of parenting skills are needed to work with these children? How can prospective adoptive parents know if they're up to the task? When should adoptive parents seek help? What community resources are available to support these adoptions? Beneficial for prospective adoptive parents as well as foster and adoptive parents.

PARENTING THE PRENATALLY SUBSTANCE EXPOSED CHILD
Many children entering adoptive family homes today have been impacted by alcohol, tobacco, cocaine and other substances. What does the latest research indicate about the long-term effects on thses children? What information do adoptive parents need to optimize thier children's development?
