Four years ago I began having dreams about a baby girl. I was pregnant so I assumed that the child in my belly was speaking to me. I dreamt that a baby girl said to me, "I am Brigit Brown, daughter of Judith, daughter of Mary Charlotte Aubry." Later, in the dream I told her "I don't know how I could have lived without you." Shortly after that our son Peter was born and the dreams were forgotten.
About a year ago I dreamt that a girl would die unless I helped her. I got her out of a prison-like situation and she went to Mexico. I wrote more about this dream, which I interpreted to mean that we should adopt a girl from a poor country, in Volume 3, Number 4 of Peter's Path. This issue of our magazine is a special issue about "the spirituality of adoption." It also includes lots of adoption resource information and several inspiring stories.
In August of 1999, my husband and I traveled to Vietnam in order to bring home our baby girl, Brigit Brown. I knew her immediately! I felt that I had known her for a long time! I believe now that we made a soul agreement to meet this way! She came into this lifetime through another woman's body...a woman who lives halfway around the world. But she has been calling me in my dreams. She has whispered in my ear "Come and get me." Her birth mother is very poor and a single woman. While we were in Vietnam, I met a girl who was selling postcards on the street. She survives on her own...an especially precarious existence for a girl. This postcard girl told me that she has a mother. Her mother lives in the country and she has no husband. So her daughter lives on the street.
Adoption is a spiritual choice!
It is designed for anyone who wants to think deeply about how spirituality can help both parents and children deal with the stresses of the modern world.
