- Dr. Richard Marrs' Fertility Book, by Richard Marrs, M.D., Lisa Friedman Bloch and Kathy Kirtland Silverman. Published by Delacorte Press,
The conversational tone of this book is misleading---the reader suddenly finds him/herself in the midst of an extremely technical explanation that is virtually painless! An excellent overview of all aspects of infertility, from acknowledging that there is a problem to finding competent care, to getting through the diagnosis and deciding on a treatment plan. The book advocates being a partner in your treatment plan, not just the subject of the treatment plan, and clearly explains details of misleading studies and media stories. "Pull Quotes" are used effectively to highlight important information and insights in each section. A welcome addition to the infertility bookshelf. - In Pursuit of Fertility, by Robert Franklin, M.D., and Dorothy Kay Brockman. Published by Henry Holt and Company, Inc.
This book is a clearly-written, easy-to-follow book that covers the full spectrum of family-building for the infertile couple---from balancing hormones to surrogacy to adoption. Notably, this book also contains extremely comprehensive sections on the reproductive challenges of women suffering from Endometriosis and histories of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). If you know a young woman who is suffering from either of these, buy her In Pursuit of Fertility now, even if she isn't planning to start a family for some time. The information in this book just may guide her to the care she needs to preserve her ability to have children.
