My daughter is about to adopt a baby boy due in seven weeks. She has already adopted his sibling two and a half years ago. The baby will be born in SC and she lives in FL. We have come to believe that adoption is a money-making racket. She already has the baby to adopt, but the lawyers in FL want $10,000.00 The interstate compact is also something that requires a lawyer. She has to pay a fortune for a home study again. Can a licensed social worker do a home study in FL? Does it have to be an agency? Why are people making a fortune on people trying to help needy children?

She can find another lawyer. 10k seems excessive simply for interstate compact and I personally wouldn't pay it. I'd find another lawyer to handle that who has a more reasonable fee schedule. As far as I know a sw can do a homestudy and there are plenty of reasonable fees for that as well.
Adoption is a business whether we like it or not. However, we have the control and right to say "No". We can say "no, I'm not paying these outrageous fees" and take our business elsewhere. Do your research on available professionals and find the ones that will do the services for a reasonable fee and in an ethical way. |
