I think the internet has been a great invention in so many positive ways, and when I see such readily available support and a "gathering place" for adoptive parents that is easily accessible, it makes me glad for technology. I do know, however, that chat rooms can be both emotionally and physically dangerous places for people, and that because they are SO easily accessible, they often attract users that do not have the best intentions. Since adoption can be and is such a touchy and sensitive topic for so many, those that intentionally go into chat rooms, pose as concerned adoptive parents or those touched by adoption and then simply irresponsibly comment in ways that is hurtful to others can be truly damaging. There was a post in another area about safe chat rooms/online support for child adoptees, and I can imagine that it would be even more horrible for a young person honestly looking for support, love, new friends and help to come across negative energy on the internet, even when parents are diligently going through the process with them and trying to find healthy forms of expression for their children to better understand their roots and their emotions.

I wonder what any of you have found online that has been helpful, in terms of chat rooms, etc.? I know the risk of finding negative people in chat rooms anywhere on the internet is unavoidable, but what have been the best places for you online to get support (besides this site, of course!), and what have your experiences been in general? This is a question for all those touched by adoption, including adoptees, adoptive parents and first parents!
