According to the U.S. State Dept., on Sept. 21, 2005, the Ukraine National Adoption Center announced it would not accept any new dossiers from U.S. citizens - in part because past adoptive families have not always filed the required annual report. This is a good example of why it's so important to pay close attention to the laws of the countries from which we adopt. Parents of children adopted from Ukraine may not have thought it was *necessary* or considered it a *bother* but those actions have had serious consequences for those hoping that Ukraine would be the home country of their children.

For adoptions that were already in progress, they will continue to be processed unless the adopting parents had previously adopted a child from Ukraine and did not file the annual reports.
