Default Adoption Subsidy - Sibling Group

    Afternoon everyone,

My wife and I have begun the process (MAPP training, home study, etc) for becoming adoptive parents. We each have raised three of our own (empty nesters) and now look forward to raising children together. I have found through research that sibling groups are classified as "special needs" and would qualify for adoption subsidy. Since our goal is for my wife to be an at-home Mom for the children and to no longer work outside the home, this subsidy would be of great benefit to us.

My question is, if we adopt a sibling group of two or three children (the size we are hoping for), would we receive a subsidy for each child? I cannot find an answer to this question anywhere.

Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Jim

Generally yes, a sibling group would qualify for subsidy and generally it does apply to each child. Every state is different how they determine the amount and needs of the child. I would ask your mapp class instructor or call your local children services office to find out specifics regarding your state.

Keep in mind that a lot of sw's will not necessarily approve a placement if you cannot show adequate income to provide for the child. The subsidy is to help of course, but you will need to show that you can provide for the kids without it too. Since government tax laws change all the time, it's not necessarily a forever guarantee that you'll receive a subsidy.

Default Thank you for your response Crick

I know that here in Florida we are facing many cuts in state aid due to our "wonderful" governor's budget. My wife and I have crunched all the numbers and we would be in good shape without the subsidy. However, since we have both raised children, we are also aware that every bit helps.
