Personal Care Items
Traveling to adopt, or traveling with children at any time, means being prepared for almost anything under a wide variety of circumstances. These items should be small enough to pack easily, but complete or powerful enough to get the job done. Keep in mind the length of time you'll be away, and do check with
adoption resources for individual countries about specific products and substitutes you can purchase locally.
1) Conair 127 Travel Hair Dryer
This is my personal choice for a travel dryer. The handle folds for easy packing, and it has a switch to select the voltage you need. I use mine wherever I am. It's a powerful dryer in a small package, with two heat settings, two speed settings, and cool shot.
2) Converter/Adaptor Set For items like the Conair hair dryer with dual voltage, you'll just need an adaptor plug, but if you have other small appliances without this option, the converter will provide the solution. Make sure small appliances requiring the converter do not exceed the watt capacity, and adaptors can be used in your destination country/countries. "Universal adapters" may be available in-country as well, in case you forget.
3) Sewing Kit My experience is that if I don't take one with me, I'll need one, so even if you bring it back unopened, a sewing kit is a travel "must." If you're traveling with clothes that have their own extra buttons, add those buttons to the kit, just in case...
4) Pediatric Travel Medical Kit This medical kit contains a large selection of products that pack into a compact plastic bin. From Adoption - A Gift of Love.
5) Eagle Creek Wallaby Toiletry Bag Great for men and women, this is my all-time favorite bag for personal care items. It folds up to pack well, holds everything securely in a water-proof interior, and includes a hook and mirror. Originally designed for camping, it's rugged and well designed.
6) Travel Bottle Warmer A warmer bag that works without batteries and electricity, or a warmer that plugs into your car lighter are ideal for traveling parents, whether you're traveling across the country or across the world.
7) Duck Tape What can I say? Don't leave home without it. Today's Duck Tape comes in colors, in flat packs to carry in your pocket, and on rolls. Use it to label your luggage, patch tears and rips, replace broken handles, and so much more.
8) Travel Alarm Clock You may be too excited to sleep much, so rely on the travel alarm for quick naps during your trip. These range in price and design, and be sure to look for one that's easy to see and operate.
9) Laundr'Pac Small and easy to pack, this hand laundry kit contains all the essentials you'll need while you travel. It contains packets of Woolite, a clothesline (doesn't need clothespins) with suction cups, and a sink stopper.
