by Jo Hamilton
[I wrote this poem following my first visit to my birth mom's grave at the age of 42.]

We've never met, but today
I bring you a yellow rose

The rose, a symbol of love, the
love of a daughter

Yellow, the color of the sun and
of happiness

I hope you like roses...and the
color yellow

We are strangers, Mother and
Daughter

Separated and yet somehow
still connected

I wish I had met you...I would know
if you like yellow roses
