The Love Value of Food - Community Response
Opinion: Peg Gilmour I am a former Foster Parent and a Foster Parent Trainer for Center of Development of Human Services (Buffalo State University) in New York. I can attest to the fact the any Foster Children/Adoptive Children that I know have always been fed very well. Most children in our care actually gain weight from our cooking. We do not skimp on portions for the non-biological child. We do find however that many children that we see do not always like the same sort of foods we eat at our table. We try to please as many as we can however it is not always possible or practical to do so.
I am also married for a second time and I will tell you that my biological daughter has never gone without anything food wise or otherwise. My current husband has done more for his step-daughter than her own Father whom she sees regularly.
I am sure that some of the publication is true in some areas, but there are many, many of us who go out of our way for children and make sure that they are fed, clothed, and loved as much as is humanly possible.
