Adoption, search and reunion, and related issues are too important for false pride. If you join an online community and you don't understand the abbreviations, acronyms, slang, or any other parts of a message, ask!

To understand the lingo, it will be helpful to learn the terms associated with adoption: the different types of adoption, the parties to an adoption, and the members of the extended adoption family:
  • Glossary of Terms
is a plain-language explanations of words and phrases associated with adoption and foster care.
  • Adoption-Speak and the Dictionary of Adoptese are satirical looks at the words and phrases used in the adoption world, most of which have made their way into our world of Adoption Lingo.
