"Birthright: The Guide to Search and Reunion for Adoptees, Birthparents, and Adoptive Parents"
by Jean A. S. Strauss
An excellent choice for those searching and those found, this is an outstanding guide to the methods, emotion, and responsibility of search and reunion.
In the years since the book was initially published (1994), many have written about the "mechanics" of search, and the "process" of reunion, but "Birthright" maintains a timeless quality by delving into underlying human issues that are part of adoption dialog both historically and in the present. Through the details of her own search and reunion, liberally salted with the experiences and opinions of others, the author pushes and prods us to come to terms with our own position on issues such as equal rights, family loyalty, identity, nature vs. nurture and privacy.
