It is very hard for a stepparent to parent a teenager. First of all, they have not been around since the child was small and they have not gained the respect of the teenager. It is important for the step-parent to realize that it takes time for that respect to grow. It is not automatically given when you become their step-parent. Be there for the teenager-not with harsh, condemning advice but with support and you will gain the teenager's respect and love. This collection of articles gives alot of advice in learning to step-parent a teenager that is helpful.
