Comments From Birth Family Members

"I am entirely for open records. I believe that anyone who has reached the age of adulthood should be able to access any record pertaining to them."

- Wilma Johnson

"Allowing adoptees access to their original birth certificates at the age of majority is a basic civil right all people should have."

- Anonymous Birth Family Member

"Sealed records violate the rights of adoptees, while depriving them and family members of years of relationships."

- Tom Clement

"I do not understand how parts of families can be torn apart and n o one virutally seems to care. Adoption also leaves scars for siblings... as one who knows nothing about the brother taken when I was about 3 and he 17 months younger than I. I relive that day over and over. I couldn't keep him with me. Tis one cruel joke adults play. Open the records and give us all options. (And) criminal penalties for unauthorized release of information? How ois it that this could happen? Where are our rights as human beings? How is it our government can meddle in our personal lives like this?"

- Faith Ann May

"There are those of us who have brothers and sisters that for whatever reason were adopted and I feel we have the right to know who our siblings are. We should have the legal right to locate our brothers/sisters. Just as they should be able to see their original birth certificates and be able to know or search out their birth parents."

- Jack D. Crayton, Jr.
