Natasha at Home - A Post-Adoption Journal
15-Jan-2001My daughter is strong willed and independent. And very, very clever.
Sunday afternoon, Natasha and I took a nap. We were both tired from shopping. I had purchased a new step stool for Natasha to use and a ball. Natasha was excited about both items and played with them for a while before she laid down to sleep.
A few hours later, I woke up to find the house was empty except for one dog. I had two dogs and one daughter before I went to sleep.
The patio door was wide open and her new step stool was on the patio.
The front door dead-bolt was unlocked but the door was closed. (Didn't know she could unlock this door. I guess her brand new step stool helped her with this little task.)
I walked outside and was standing outside, dazed and confused. I started yelling "Natasha".
A woman driving by in a white minivan rolled down her window. She asked, "Are you looking for a little girl?". I said yes and she pointed to a green house that was 2 houses away from me.
I walked over and found Natasha playing with some older children. She had put her shoes and coat on. She took her ball and Taz (the missing dog)and went for a walk.
My game plan with Natasha is to stay one step ahead of her. Sunday I fell behind. I will be getting a chain for the front door so that hopefully she won't be going for anymore walks. (Yeah.. right)
