My Father's Promises
by Melissa DawnI promise to be by your side,
To hold you tight and keep you safe and warm.
Take your hand in my hand,
and guide you in the right direction.
Keep you fed and tuck you in to bed,
Like a father should,
he said.
Wipe away all your tears,
Be there to care for you,
through the good and the bad of our years.
Comfort you when you are sad,
Never raise a finger at you,
Whether I am angry or mad.
I will love you till the day that I die,
I promise you, this is no lie.
These are not just words,
From a book that I read,
These are my promises,
My Dad said.
