Birthmother

This movie, "Deep In My Heart," was well titled, speaking volumes for those of us birthmoms out there....

There is never a day, birthday, holiday or minute we do not feel deep in our heart for our children that we were forced to relinquish...whether it was due to rape or not... circumstances forced us to do the most cruel and heart-wrenching thing that we would ever do in our lives...

My name is Patricia M. Cullinan and I am a birthmother, forced bysociety to give my child to adoption rather than try to fight for his life. I was 17 years old and I almost died giving birth to my son. There is so much to say here, but most important is that I have found my son... 28 years later. He is now 30 years old and I missed his whole life — and he missed mine too.

All the secrets and lies of adoption... I was never promised confidentiality.

The movie was excellent... such a shame that it really isn't that simple to find your birthparents. If I hadn't been looking for my son, I would never have been reunited. He was told I was dead, so he was only going to search for medical information. Why, oh why, would somebody be so cruel as to say that I was dead?

Some adoptees never want to find their birthfamilies, because they were lied to by people about how terrible the birthmoms were. I wasn't.
