How to Find Adoption Search Angels
Volunteers Help With Adoption-Related SearchHOW TO FIND A SEARCH ANGEL:
Search angels can be found in search and support groups, on discussion boards, and in special listings like the one we have here.
- Check the state laws on search, and the services they offer. Some states offer free help, others don't.
- Contact one or more search groups in the state where the adoption took place. These groups, discussion boards, and chat rooms are filled with people searching or who have searched and they are a wonderful resource.
- Look through our Angel listing and see if there's someone in the area you're searching who might be willing to help. (We try to keep the list current but can't guarantee that all Angels are always active.) There are also some excellent Angel Sites - Web sites with free search services.
BEFORE YOU CONTACT A SEARCH ANGEL ON OUR LISTING:
- Search assistance will not be provided for or by minor adoptees.
- Search angels are not endorsed or recommended. This is strictly an informational listing. Use them AT YOUR OWN RISK.
These are people just like you and me, with jobs and responsibilities, and their search efforts are confined to their spare time. They are doing this as a labor of love and if we abuse their offers, we won't have any angels left!
For any additional assistance you may ask of them beyond what they have listed, they may request payment of fees or other charges that they incur to help you. This should be handled between you and them.
A Word of Caution
- We do not know any of the search angels who post on our forums or visit our chat rooms, and we cannot verify their information. As with any other service provider, you are responsible for any arrangements you make or information you give out.
- Search assistance should not be requested by or for minor adoptees.
- Search angels are not professional intermediaries and should not be asked to make contact for you.
- Please do not abuse the offers these volunteer searchers are making. They are people reaching out to people in the kindest way possible.
