Family Building is Not a Political Issue
A Statement on Gay Adoption from The American Infertility Association.

New York, NY, March 15, 2002 - The American Infertility Association (AIA) supports families of all descriptions. The success of a loving family does not rest on sexual orientation.

"Family building should not be a political issue. Nor should it be about gender-politics. It's about creating loving families for children. All kinds of people from all backgrounds can provide loving and wonderful homes through birth, adoption, and foster care," said Pamela Madsen, Executive Director of The AIA. "We have so many children waiting for adoption in the United States, we should welcome and support all people who have a loving heart and the capability to provide a safe and caring home for a child."

"Rosie O'Donnell has helped us to raise awareness by putting a face on the loving homes that children can find with all kinds of families. The AIA supports Steve Lofton and Roger Croteau, a gay couple fighting to keep their family together by trying to overturn the state of Florida's ban on gay adoption.

The AIA urges all state legislatures to look at research that has been done which demonstrates that children growing up with parents in gay households are just as loved, healthy, safe, and successful, as any child raised in the warmth that a loving family can provide, regardless of sexual affiliations or marital status.

The American Infertility Association, is a national organization dedicated to assisting women and men facing decisions related to family building and reproductive health-from prevention and treatment to social and psychological concerns. The mission of the AIA is to serve as a lifetime resource for men and women needing reproductive information and support and to forward the causes of adoption and reproductive health through advocacy, education, awareness building and research funding.
