Child Carriers and Slings for Travel

The best travel carriers and slings hold your child close, at the front or on the hip, and give you some hands-free motion. I don't recommend backpack carriers for new parents. Being in a position where you can see each other is more reassuring. Choose a style that's comfortable. Carrying a child's weight is easier for some on the hip, while others prefer the frontpack style.

1)Cuddle Karrier
My first choice, this carrier can be used in seven (7!) different ways, depending on the age and size of your child, and where you use it. It packs easily, but even when you're not carrying your child, you may want to use it as a shoulder bag or fanny pack (two of its convenient transformations). Those who have used it say it can hold a child weighing up to 50 pounds.

2)Snugli Carriers
One of the best known brands, Snugli carriers come in several different styles, and can be used to carry your child facing you or facing out. Most Snugli models are for children weighing up to 26 pounds, and the carriers are frontpack style.

3)Theodore Bean Carriers
Do you make fashion statements? Then this might be just the carrier for you. This frontpack style carrier comes in leather with plush linings, leopard prints, and micromesh. The carrier has an "infant pod" for newborns and babies up to 12 pounds, as well as the child carrier which can hold a child weighing up to 30 pounds.

4)Khanga Sling
This sling is like a padded shawl that can be worn in several different ways to carry babies and younger children. The shawl aspect of the design spreads the weight instead of the sometimes uncomfortable feel of a shoulder strap. It can be used to hold your child while sitting or sleeping, in addition to another more sturdy travel carrier since it packs like a scarf and weighs almost nothing.
