I'm not certain that you can get them to talk.

Chat Moderator
ok - we're not talking about the "rebirthing" thing... but about therapeutic holding?

JodyHOST
Kay, many feel that it is simply too invasive. Recently, there was a death of a child due to RAD treatment....rebirthing.

poppyflr
Well, I know what sort of abuse and neglect he (and his sisters and brother) have been through.

Johnsmom
Poppy start with asking him everyday, on a scale of 1-10 how are you feeling today? then ask ok now what feeling are you feeling, angry, sad or glad

KAYDOC
mine can really get on a roll talking - play, dream and history work has helped

poppyflr
I already know he is angry......at his mother mostly.

Chat Moderator
poppy, I think one of the hardest things a parent has to do is remove the emotion of the reasons out of it - my parents would blame abuse and use it as a reason for not pushing

JodyHOST
if his Mother is no longer available to him...then the next "Mom" is the target of their wrath

poppyflr
that would be me..

JodyHOST
Amen, Chat Moderator

JodyHOST
Here too, poppy

SusanMW
I'm slowly learning the Nancy Thomas stuff and trying to put it all back on Hannah, instead of me getting emotional...it works when I can do it...

Johnsmom
mine is sitting strong at the moment, a technique used to teach self control..............

poppyflr
what is sitting strong?

Chat Moderator
it's so hard Susan

SusanMW
and I get so tired...!

Johnsmom
Yes! Susan that's what I am using also. it is tiring but well worth it

SusanMW
Strong sitting...Hannah sits cross legged at a wall, straight back, no movement...time to think and get control

JodyHOST
can you share with us?

poppyflr
oh...I've been doing that with Michael and didn't know it was a technique... :)

Johnsmom
strong sitting is a technique that we use to help teach these children self control, they sit with a straight strong back still and quiet - yes what susan said

SusanMW
Johnsmom, how long have you being doing Nancy Thomas stuff?

Johnsmom
for about 10 minutes 3 times a day is what we do for John. I have been doing it since October 1999 Susan
