I wouldn't hug - still don't very often - my parents were of the generation that didn't feel entitled - so when I pulled away, instead of insisting, they left me alone

Johnsmom
now, he recently "fell in love" with a young girl who accepted him with no strings and no predisposition about him... he soaked it up

JodyHOST
Chat Moderator, that's what I see in my two....they reject us in every way imaginable, so we don't reject them first...unfortunately both of mine are so severe that they're in residential treatment now.

JodyHOST
Chat Moderator, in many ways, that's the best thing to do.....too many demands on an RAD individual will set them off.

Chat Moderator
right Jody - and while it got milder as I grew older, it's still there.. I reject so I won't be rejected.. over and over - a pattern I'm trying very hard to break - even now

Johnsmom
was very caring toward her, it was really neat. he got emotional when it ended. a really big change from the "I dont give a darn about the world" attitude.

JodyHOST
To back up a moment.....RAD begins at birth and is typically well set by age 2. These children find the world unpredictable and frightening.

What happens if and when there is a diagnosis? Do I tell the Dr. I suspect RAD?

Johnsmom
In my opinion I would, because otherwize the lot of them seem to be clueless about RAD

Chat Moderator
right Jody - I was adopted at 14 months and patterns were very recognizeable

SusanMW
My daughter has fairly mild RAD, thankfully, but it's still hell...maybe I should say heck!

JodyHOST
Exactly, Chat Moderator....it comes from neglect, when a child's needs are not met...which is a cycle that is repeated 100 times a day. If the child's needs are not met....they will retreat within themselves.

Chat Moderator
hell can be a mild word for it, Susan

JodyHOST
Susan....it's hell

KAYDOC
with my children the doctors recognize RAD but the counseling centers are backing away from the help

Chat Moderator
why do you think that is, Kay?

poppyflr
How do you get the child to talk? I want to help this kid, but I don't know what to do when he is hurting his siblings...

SusanMW
I've run into several situations where service providers have been scared off of late...

KAYDOC
Seems that the controversy over the HOLDING THERAPY is causing a split with social workers and counselors
