Bertha Holt, who with her late husband Harry, opened the way to international adoption, died July 31, 2000, at age 96 following a massive stroke.

Beginning with their own adoption of eight children from Korea in 1955, Bertha and Harry Holt set an example of love and family transcending all barriers. They subsequently established Holt International Children's Services which has assisted families with the adoptions of more than 200,000 children internationally, and established human outreach programs to the homeless of the world.
