Basic Books is proud to announce that Adam Pertman, author of the acclaimed book "Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming America," will receive a unique honor this week: the "Special Friend of Children" award from the New England Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

This is the first such award ever given by the council, the largest branch of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. It will be presented at a dinner Wednesday, June 5, starting 7 p.m. at the Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham. Pertman will give a speech and answer questions at the ceremony.

The Dave Thomas Center for Adoption Law and the American Adoption Congress gave Pertman their first-ever awards as America's foremost adoption journalist-educator.Pertman also received the 2002 Friend of Adoption award from the ODS Adoption Community of New England, the Year 2000 Journalism Award from Holt International Children's Services, and the prestigious Leonard Silk Journalism Fellowship from the Century Foundation.
