Sealed Adoption Records
Definition: The original birth certificate of an adopted person, and records of court proceedings, agency reports, and other documents are sealed to protect the confidentiality of the parties to an adoption. Release of information in these sealed records is governed by state law in the U.S., and provincial law in Canada.
