Movies about Adoption:
Snow Dogs
by Sandra Lenington
The new Disney movie called "Snow Dogs" has an adoption theme and is appropriate for children and adults of all ages, although it is probably best for young children around five to ten. The movie presents transracial adoption issues, as well as the issues of adoptive parents' fears in talking to their children about adoption, who are the "real" parents, and issues about when is the best time to talk to children about adoption. It was the story of a young, black dentist from Miami who followed in his father's footsteps and became a dentist. One day he is notified that he is the recipient of an inheritance and this is where the story takes a turn. Ted, the main character, finds out that he was adopted, but his parents never told him out of fear that he would not love them.

Ted goes to Alaska, where his birth mom lived and enters into a completely different world. He goes to Alaska searching for answers about his past and ends up finding love, answers about his past and a realization that his adoptive mom and dad were his parents whom he loves with new understanding. He also learns to love his birthfather, who turns out to be an ornery old white frontiersman.
