Us at the NY Yankees ticker tape parade.
We met in 1990 when Vicki was planning a move from the Los Angeles area to northern California. A friend of Vicki's -Stu's cousin actually - suggested Vicki look him up when she was in the area. On her first visit, Stu treated Vicki to a wonderful home-cooked dinner, a drive through the beautiful coastal hills, and deep, meaningful communication. She was hooked! Vicki relocated to Sonoma County and we were married two years later in 1992!We already have blended our family, as Samuel and Jesse - Stu's sons - have been an important part of our relationship and everyday lives. We have a stable and caring relationship, and we believe it will be greatly enhanced raising another child as part of our family.
Vicki continues to be attracted by Stu's sensitivity and gentleness, and his commitment to his values and beliefs. Stu explains that he is attracted to Vicki because of “our shared values and perspectives, her ability to communicate, and her intelligence… I found a person I could share important feelings and thoughts with.” We both share a commitment to a spiritual journey: a reverence for life, for God, and a desire to be controlled by love.
When we disagree on something, we've learned to talk about our feelings and what we want. We try to hear each other and respect each other's perspective, and look for ways to compromise. If we've been angry or emotional, we try to come back later when we've cooled down and find common ground.“I have fun with Stu,” says Vicki. “He is inquisitive and loves new experiences. He has a sense of awe and wonder at life, which reminds me of the joy and goodness in the world. We share many things together music, festivals, gardening, museums, books, spirituality, and social/political activities. Stu is very nurturing and supportive.”
“I value our emotional intimacy and our sharing experiences together,” Stu explains. “I find myself challenged and I learn about myself and grow. I like our being able to share our passions. My life has been enriched by our experiences that happen because of Vicki. ”
Happy Birthday to Stu
The family on this webpage is working with Pact, An Adoption Alliance, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the highest quality adoption services to children of color. We would be happy to give you more information about them and adoption in general - please feel free to call us (ask for Marta Barton, one of our Adoption Coordinator and a birth parent herself who placed her first son for adoption in 1991) at (800) 750-7590.
Our primary client is the child. In order to serve the child, we address the needs of all the child's parents, by advising families facing a crisis pregnancy and by offering lifelong education to adoptive families and birth families on matters of race and adoption. Our goal is for every child to feel wanted honored and loved, a cherished member of a strong family with proud connections to the rich cultural heritage that is his or her birthright. Pact was incorporated in 1991 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
