Vicki has always been attracted to adoption, her sister was adopted so Vicki has experienced adoption first hand as a positive way to build a family. We are open to corresponding with their child's birth parents via letters and pictures as well as exploring the possibility of occasional face to face visits. We both love getting to know different cultures and travel to near by cultural events. We understand that because we live in a predominantly white community building relationships with people of color takes special efforts. Our circle of friends already includes many people of color, particularly African Americans, Africans and Latinos. We intend to find schools for our children that have a strong representation of people of color.

We're pursuing adoption because we've been unable to conceive a child of our own. While that's been painful, we decided we'd rather adopt a child needing an adoptive family, rather than go for more extreme and expensive infertility treatments.

We volunteer our time supporting causes we believe in We empathize with the difficult decision you've made to place your child for adoption. We can imagine that a great concern of yours is to do what's best for him or her. Vicki's younger sister was adopted when Vicki was eight years old, so we know how successful adoption can be for everyone involved.

We also know that adoption is a great challenge and that adopting a child of a different racial background requires a special commitment to teach a child pride in their racial history and birthright. We're willing and able to make that commitment. We know we can give a child great love and a stable, secure home. Each of us has friends and colleagues who are people of color, and we look forward to deepening these relationships and building new ones, so our child will grow up with good role models from their own racial background. Having ongoing contact with you, the birthparent(s), is something we look forward to and welcome.

Christmas with Vicki's family (including her adopted sister)

The family on this webpage is working with Pact, An Adoption Alliance, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the highest quality adoption services to children of color. We would be happy to give you more information about them and adoption in general - please feel free to call us (ask for Marta Barton, one of our Adoption Coordinator and a birth parent herself who placed her first son for adoption in 1991) at (800) 750-7590.

Our primary client is the child. In order to serve the child, we address the needs of all the child's parents, by advising families facing a crisis pregnancy and by offering lifelong education to adoptive families and birth families on matters of race and adoption. Our goal is for every child to feel wanted honored and loved, a cherished member of a strong family with proud connections to the rich cultural heritage that is his or her birthright. Pact was incorporated in 1991 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
