It has been nine years since we met at work and we have been inseparable ever since. Stephanie's childhood church was the site of our wedding six and a half years ago. We have a stable loving marriage and are blessed with a large group of loving and supporting family and friends.
Recently we moved into a new home just outside Sacramento, California. Our home has five bedrooms and three bathrooms with a large backyard ready for a swing set. Most of our neighbors are young couples just starting out. Our neighborhood is filled with kids we live less than a block away from a brand new 30-acre park, which has a huge playground and nature area. There's also a new elementary school just around the corner.
We have always wanted to have children. Although we love our nieces and nephews and all of our friends kids that we play "Aunt" and "Uncle" to, it is our dream to have children of our own and to be parents. It is impossible for us to know what a difficult decision this is for you, but please be assured we are very respectful of your courageous decision no matter what you decide.
We hope this letter will help you get to know us a little and show you the love we feel for each other and want to share with a child.
Stephanie comes from a family of four children. She has two brothers, who are both married, with two children each and a younger sister who attends college in Santa Cruz. Stephanie's father is a semi-retired police officer and her mother is a librarian. Stephanie's nieces and nephews are very special to her and when she doesn't get to see them she calls, sends notes and now with the ones that can read sends lots of e-mails. Stephanie has a large extended family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Stephanie's Aunt Jeanne maintains a family website, which everyone updates with news about themselves. There are 117 family members that are linked on the website and a weekly chat is held every Sunday night. As you can imagine, family holidays are always a major event.
On the other hand, John comes from a small family. He has one sister, Marinda, who is currently working on a master's degree in social work. John's mother remarried a few years ago to a wonderful man, Bill. They all live close by and we see them fairly often. John's mother and step-father are both retired and travel extensively around the world and always bring us back gifts and stories from their world travels. John's "Oma" (Dutch for grandmother) is in her nineties and still lives on her own. She amazes us all with all her energy. Oma has a garden that could even rival Martha Stewart's!
Our lives are filled with lots of little adventures, like mini weekend vacations and excursions. Each year we try to do a couple of trips to Tahoe, San Francisco, Monterey, Napa and of course Disneyland. We can't wait to share these and other trips with our child. We also have to admit to being a little bit of homebodies as well. Many of our weekends are spent doing home projects, decorating and landscaping our new home.
