I've always loved children. I started baby-sitting when I was young, worked as an aide in Sunday school classes, and majored in Child Development in college. In my fifteen years as an elementary school teacher, I've had many wonderful children come into my life. Watching the joy and excitement children feel when they learn something new is the greatest pleasure of teaching and something I am now enjoying every day with Adam.
I enjoy traveling, reading, painting and studying art history. I had great fun painting a mural of the sun and the moon on the ceiling of Adam's room and am working on a mural for the baby's room.
ABOUT JEFFI am very fortunate that my career at Hewlett Packard gives us enough financial security for Elaine to stay at home with Adam. My job gives me access to the latest in computer technologies, which should provide a good head start for Adam and for his brother or sister too.
I have always loved music. I majored in classical piano in college before getting my degree in Computer Science. Every week I play piano for a neighborhood church. Adam and I enjoy singing, dancing, and listening to a wide variety of music as well as playing piano and recorder together.
Adam also loves being creative. He likes to dance and sing. Currently, his favorite music is Mozart, South American folk music, and a song called "I've got a Boo-Boo." He enjoys drawing and painting. And with a little help he knows how to make waffles, egg salad and peanut butter cookies.
Adam and Elaine go to play group one day each week. Adam and his friends have been together for over two years. They play at each other's houses and learn to share toys. In good weather we meet in the park. We've had Christmas, Easter and Valentine parties. We've gone on short trips, swimming, and to concerts together.
Several of Adam's friends now have baby brothers or sisters, and he is fascinated with them. Lately, he has been asking about when he was a little baby. Adam likes hearing about all the things he has learned in his two and a half years. We think he'll enjoy teaching these things to a younger sister or brother. He is at a great age to have a sibling because he is independent enough for us to give some extra attention to the new baby and yet young enough that they can be playmates later on.
WHERE WE LIVEOur home in the Historic District of Folsom, California is 108 years old. We are within walking distance of a state park along the American River, two neighborhood parks, a small zoo and several historic sites from early California history.
We like to go to special events in Folsom several times each year such as Thursday night street markets, the "Gold Rush Days" living history exhibits and children's concerts. And it's always fun to walk down to the main street to get an ice cream cone.
EXTENDED FAMILYWe feel blessed that many family members live nearby are a major part of our lives. Adam has three grandparents, many aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. Some live within ten minutes of us, others are an hour away. Another aunt and uncle live about three hours away in Carmel. Jeff's grandmother is in Los Angeles. Adam also has an uncle, aunt and cousin in Nebraska whom we see once a year.
Our families taught us to give respect for all living things, to cherish our loved ones, to honor our commitments, and to work for what we believe in. We are modeling these same values for Adam.
All our relatives know we are trying to adopt again, and they are as excited as we are to welcome a new member into our family.
